On Monday, March 8, at the DeWitt Public Schools Board of Education meeting, Dr. John Deiter announced he will be retiring effective June 30, 2021. Although he is retiring from education leadership in Michigan, he will join Northbrook School District 27 in Northbrook, Illinois as the Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1. While we will miss John, we wish him well in his new adventure and thank him for 10 years of leadership and exceptional work in DeWitt.
The Board of Education has begun the search for it’s next Superintendent. On March 8, the Board of Education selected the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) to conduct an Executive Search process to support our efforts to find the right individual to serve the District. As we move forward in the search process, the Board of Education wishes to obtain input from various sources within the DeWitt Community. Between COVID restrictions and a short timeframe to complete the selection process, we will seek input via a survey, the link to the survey available below. Please take advantage of this opportunity to give the Board your feedback regarding the characteristics you believe are important to consider as we evaluate the candidates for this important leadership role. The survey will remain active until Monday, April 5 at 11 PM. MASB will tabulate the results and provide them to the Board as we begin reviewing the applications and interviewing candidates.
This is an exciting time for DeWitt. Through Dr. Deiter’s tenure, the District has been improved in many ways. We look forward to the process of continued improvement and innovation as we discover what the future holds for all of us.
The Board’s goal is to have a new Superintendent selected and starting on July 1.
